JANSON FARMS
Janson Farms is a family-owned Hacienda established in 1941. Originally a cattle farm, it was owned by Carl Axel Janson, an immigrant from Sweden. Carl's sons, Carl, Michael, Ricardo, and
Peter, established Janson Coffee in 1989.
They operate two coffee plantations—Hacienda las Lagunas and Los Alpes—in the Talamanca Mountain Range, on the slopes of the Tisingal and the Baru volcano.
Hacienda las Lagunas, located at 1,350-1,400 meters, is named after its lagoons and wetlands. It is located West of the Barú Volcano, with rich volcanic soil and several natural springs. The coffee plantation's different lots are surrounded by areas of a natural reserve, which serve as natural barriers to protect the plantation and are also vital habitats for a wide variety of birds and wildlife.
Los Alpes is located at 1600-1700 meters in Tisingal, on the Talamanca mountain range, bordering La Amistad Natural
Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Constantly focusing on improving quality, Janson Farms has earned several Best Of Panama awards. It operates its own nursery, where specialty-grade arabica seeds are carefully selected: Green tip Geisha, Catuai, Caturra, and Pacamara.
The farm maintains a balance of nutrients in the soil using enzyme microorganisms, no pesticides, and no herbicides, among other things. The farms are micromanaged in lots for traceability and quality control. Plantations are separated by forests, which serve as natural barriers against pests and protect the region's natural flora and fauna.
