Janson coffee farm

Janson farms is a family owned Hacienda established in 1941, originally a cattle farm, by Carl Axel Janson an immigrant from Sweden. It was Carl’s sons Carl, Michael, Ricardo and Peter who established Janson Coffee on 1989.

Janson Coffee Farm is collaborating with us in our first deluxe product. We hope to work alongside the most renowned coffee farms in Panama, and keep launching new products soon.

Janson’s two coffee plantations are located on the Talamanca Mountain Range on the slopes of Tisingal and Baru volcano.

HACIENDA, short for Hacienda las Lagunas is their farm located at 1,350-1,400 masl, in the region of Volcán. Hacienda las Lagunas, named after its lagoons and wetlands, is located West of the Barú Volcano, with a rich volcanic soil and several natural springs. The different lots of the coffee plantation are surrounded by areas of a natural reserve which serve as natural barriers to protect the plantation and are also a vital habitat for a large variety of birds and wildlife.

LOS ALPES was named after the Swiss Alps. This farm is located at 1600-1700 masl, in Tisingal, on the Talamanca mountain range of westernmost Panama, NW of the Baru Volcano, bordering La Amistad International Park, a natural reserve. This is a park that crosses the border from Panama into Costa Rica and is home to many species, including the famous Quetzal, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

They have their own nursery where they select specialty grade arabica seeds for their seedlings: green tip Geisha, Catuai, Caturra and Pacamara.

In their farms quality production with harmony is our goal. They keep a balance of nutrients in the soil using enzyme micro organisms, no pesticides, no herbicides among others. The farms are micromanaged in lots for traceability and quality control. Plantations are separated by forest which serve as natural barriers against pests and also protect the natural flora and fauna of the region.

The environment is important for us.

400 solar panels produce the energy for Janson’s Farm and Plant, plus all excess matter from their processing is reused as fuel or fertilizer. Seeds from their forests are planted in their nursery for reforestation and protection of their water resources. Water from their springs is used for their wet process. Janson Farm is 100% committed to improve and protect our environment.

Beneficio (Plant):

Their beneficio (processing plant) was built in 1993, designed exclusively for specialty coffee, including several selections to be able to separate coffee by quality and origin. They do natural and wash process by using updated technology combined with artisanal methods to obtain the best quality. They have a special temperature and humidity-controlled storage facility to store their green beans in the best environment in order to preserve quality.

Constantly focusing on improving quality, they have earned several BOP awards with their coffee being always among the best, on the semifinal and final tables of the Best of Panama.
